Aconcagua – Photographs by Pablo Betancourt
Aconcagua Photographs is the first book of images about the highest mountain in the American continent and is the result of several seasons of work on Mount Aconcagua. There are more than 100 photographs that document all the power, beauty and life of the highest elevation in the world outside the Asian Himalayas.
They also tell the curious relationship that occurs in many mountains: the atmosphere of the great wilderness, with its scale alien to man, and the base camps, as motley and cosmopolitan as a European capital. Real cities of cloth with their administration and commerce.
The images have a documentary record, that of a report on mountaineering on Aconcagua. A large-scale reportage, as if it were a block to the great mountain that is its object.
But they also have the spirit of a mountain story, the attitude of those who throw their backpacks over their shoulders and set out on a new expedition, to perceive the colors and landscapes of the high peaks, to discover the wildlife of the valleys and to meet new friends. It is in this spirit that this book was created.
